Placement to Graduate

"One of the things I like the most about Lighthouse Systems is the friendly atmosphere throughout the office. Even the Directors know your name and know when you have done something good. Even when I was a placement student I wasn’t Just-Another-Placement-Student, I was Tabetha." Tabetha Slade -

Here is Tabetha Story, in her own words.

From July 2015 to September 2016, I completed my Placement Year with Lighthouse Systems.  I was a member of the Implementation Support team, where I was the first person customers would speak to when they had an issue or question. Each of us in the support team were given a few customers to look after, where we took sole responsibility for investigating and fixing any issues and answering any questions that anyone from those customers contacted us with.

I studied my degree, BSc Computer Science with a Year in Industry, at University of Kent in Canterbury. I am now a Project Engineer, within the Support/Implementation team at Lighthouse, having started in June 2017.

One of the things I like the most about Lighthouse Systems is the friendly atmosphere throughout the office. Even the Directors know your name and know when you have done something good. Even when I was a placement student I wasn’t Just-Another-Placement-Student, I was Tabetha.

There is not exactly a ‘typical’ day at Lighthouse, at least in the support team.  As a placement student, I worked mainly on support, with a small amount of project work to fill the time. Some days I would just log into my laptop in the morning and have a phone call straight away, sometimes I could go through a whole day, or even a week, without getting a phone call from a customer. Customers would also contact us by email, and we would have a rota for who would check the inbox each day. Customer’s issues could range between questions on how to use the system, which could take a couple of minutes to answer, to a major issue with their system that could take several days to investigate and fix.

Lucky for me, after my placement year, I was offered a full time position, which I jumped at, and this was not just for the free chocolate, lunches and beer.

Therefore, if you are hardworking, up for a challenge and interested in rolling out high quality solutions to world-renowned manufacturers then you could be our ideal placement graduate.
